Learn All About CBG!

We’ve all heard about CBD, but what the heck is CBG?

Meet the “mother of all cannabinoids.”…Cannabigerol, aka CBG, is one of over 100 naturally occurring cannabinoids in hemp plants, but unique for creating the building blocks for famous cannabinoids like CBD and THC—no wonder this “stem cell” cannabinoid holds all sorts of therapeutic potential.

Thankfully, farms like Northwoods Botanicals can grow unique hemp strains that are dominant in this cannabinoid–making CBG more accessible and affordable than ever! While there is plenty more to be learned about this exciting compound, decades of studies have documented all sorts of positive effects, all corroborated anecdotally by the growing number of those who have incorporated CBG into their regular wellness routine.

The Science of CBG

Cannabigerol, commonly known as CBG, is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, it won’t get you “high,” although many customers have told us that it helps them with focus and elevated mood. CBG is often referred to as the “parent” or “stem cell” cannabinoid because it’s the precursor from which other cannabinoids like CBD and THC are synthesized.

The Rarity Factor

Until developments in plant breeding as recently as 2018, CBG had been found naturally in only trace amounts and was considered very rare and difficult to extract, and thus very expensive. Thankfully we are able to cultivate hemp flowers on our farm with high production of CBG at harvest time, from strains such as “White CBG”, allowing us to offer our cannabigerol-rich tinctures and salves at affordable prices to our customers.

The Legal Landscape

CBG falls under the same legal classifications as CBD in most jurisdictions, meaning it’s generally legal as long as it’s extracted from hemp plants that contain less than 0.3% THC.

The Research Landscape

While research on CBG is still in its infancy compared to CBD, initial studies have explored its interaction with the endocannabinoid system, which regulates various physiological processes.
